AmRank: a rankings institute with 1,141 products and zero shortcuts
A full publishing platform designed and built end-to-end — 115 ranking categories, a daily journal, a complete Spanish edition, and every article narrated in audio. Live today, and still growing.

The brief
The American Ranking Institute ranks America's products — the product and the company behind it scored together, the methodology published in full, the lists kept short on purpose. The website had to carry that credibility at scale: more than a hundred category rankings with scored product cards, verified prices and working buy links, plus a journal publishing every day. And it had to be found — by Google, and increasingly by the AI assistants people now ask instead.
Goals
- 115 ranking categories and 1,141 scored products in one navigable system
- Bilingual from the foundations — a full Spanish edition, not a translation plugin
- Every journal article narrated — audio treated as a first-class edition
- Scores drawn honestly — half-star precision, honors computed by rule
- Built to be cited — by search engines and AI assistants alike
The challenge
Scale fights clarity. A thousand products can dissolve into a spreadsheet with a logo — unless one design system makes every category feel like the same institute wrote it, and a score means the same thing on every page. Add a second language, an audio edition, weekly price-and-availability verification across the entire catalog, and a hard editorial rule — no claim without evidence — and the build becomes an operations problem as much as a design one.
The design system
The palette the whole site is built from — every page, card, and graphic drawn from these colors and no others:
#14263F
#101F38
#C9A227
#D9B95C
#F2ECD9
One system, 115 categories
A single product-card design carries the whole catalog: the photo verified against the real item, the score in half-star steps, and honors — lowest price, best value, top pick — computed by published rules, never awarded by hand or sold. The 115th category inherits the entire grammar, so it reads like the institute's own work. Because it is.
Two languages, one institute
The Spanish edition is a complete second publication: every ranking, journal article, and guide professionally translated and reviewed to a neutral standard, on its own URLs, with its own narration voice. Not a mirror — a sibling.
Audio everywhere, done properly
Every journal article ships with a listen player, the back catalog is fully narrated, and the Journal also runs as a podcast. Narration follows strict follow-along rules: the voice reads what the page shows, so listeners can read along without getting lost.
The outcome
AmRank operates today as a working publication — a daily journal, a weekly catalog-wide price check, growing citations from AI assistants, and a holiday gift guide that runs paid search every season. It is the largest site we run, and the standing proof that the studio's process holds at a scale most local businesses will never need. Which is exactly why it works for the ones who do.
